High energy costs, limited visibility

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada operates 12 club locations across the Las Vegas area. With 53 HVAC units (435.9 tons total capacity) across 4 campuses—Agassi, Gaughan, James, and Reynolds—they faced several critical challenges:

  • High energy consumption with limited visibility into building operations
  • No centralized system for oversight or reporting across locations
  • Small issues escalating into costly emergency repairs
  • Frequent HVAC overuse leading to equipment strain and premature wear

Without real-time monitoring, the facilities team was constantly reactive—discovering problems only after they became expensive emergencies.

One unified platform

Kohost deployed a comprehensive smart building solution across 4 BGCSNV campuses, covering 53 HVAC units. The integration included:

HVAC/Thermostats

Concierge Ticketing System

Lighting Controls

SOS Emergency Panic System

Access Control

Smart TVs

Cameras

Alarms

What used to be manual and reactive became automated and visible in real time. The facilities team can now manage all locations from a single dashboard, catching issues earlier and preventing costly emergencies.

THE IMPACT

Over $1.1M in total value delivered

Across 4 campuses and 53 HVAC units, BGCSNV achieved a 30% reduction in HVAC runtime—saving approximately 40,000 compressor hours per year and $26,645 in annual operating savings. The reduced runtime is extending equipment lifespan by an estimated 4–5 years, deferring $1.09M in replacement CapEx.

Beyond cost savings, the impact extends to the community: Average Daily Attendance increased by 14.5%, with 90 more kids served. In total, Kohost has delivered over $1,116,000 in value to BGCSNV.

With faster issue resolution, fewer costly repairs, and reduced downtime, staff spend less time reacting to facility issues and more time on their core mission: serving youth.

0:09My name is Andrew Bolshazy. I'm the director of facilities for the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada.

0:14My name is Brian Kaelin and I'm the clubhouse director of the John C. Kish Clubhouse for Boys and Girls Club Southern Nevada.

0:21None of our systems were very efficient. They all worked separately from each other. They didn't talk to each other very well. We had to submit tickets and work orders in one system and they got approved and processed through another system and it just didn't talk to each other very well.

0:36Thankfully, now that we have Kohost, everything talks to each other. Everything works together. It's all in one place. It works quickly and it's just so much better for all the clubhouses and all the kids we serve.

0:46Kohost has done a lot for us. The concierge portal specifically, it's super handy. It puts everything at my fingertips. It lets me open doors. It lets me go through my security cameras. It lets me manage my work tickets. Like, it does everything for us. It streamlines the way I can control my building, the way I can keep my kids safe, and the way that I can keep everything maintained all at the same time.

1:07We have a bunch of kids running in and out of our building every day. We serve close to 1,500 kids daily. When that is happening, your doors get abused. Now, with our new Salto doors, our door breakage is way down. We have less repairs which means that we have more efficient buildings.

1:25We're not chasing doors anymore. The lock system is universal. Everybody has a — you know, the staff have tabs but everything locks behind so that kids can't get into spaces that are unsupervised.

Andrew Bolshazy

1:37So the best part about Kohost is when we started off we didn't know where to start. We had different systems from our security, our camera control. We had no doors. We had no lights. We barely got brand new TVs and we didn't know where we were starting with it. And then when we started having the conversation with Kohost about how we would integrate certain things, we didn't have to do everything at once. We took a very slow approach in the early months figuring out how we wanted each of these components to talk to each other and how they would integrate.

2:07And then over the last 2 years, we've been fortunate enough because of the grant funding opportunities that we've had, we've added additional components, especially like our Relay devices, which is our communication for day-to-day is now integrated into our Kohost.

2:24And because of that, we don't have to worry about what our next thing is that we want to integrate. We know that Kohost will be able to integrate it.

Andy Bischel

2:31The thing that we have to lead with is safety. So, if we're going to house kids, we're going to work with kids, we have to lead with safety. And these tools really allow us to be really efficient with our policies and procedures. Really bringing them to life and making sure that everybody's secure.

2:47Because the next thing we need to lead with is fun. Kids have been in school all day. They want to have fun, but we need to make sure it's a safe environment for them to really go out and explore.
